If he’s on a free we should pick him up.

You'd have had a testimonial for such service years ago. Shame he couldn't say a proper goodbye.

Re: Winston Reid released
Well having seen first hand the damage he did at Swansea I can finally collect my money from my pal Jimmy, who I bet Winston wouldn't ever play first team footy for us again.

Good player always remembered for THAT goal.

Re: Winston Reid released
Sad news , but inevitable I suppose .
Have to say I was surprised at the time when we signed a Kiwi . NZ hardly a power in the game .
Limited player in some aspects , but always gave 100% .
Wish him best of luck for his future career .

Re: Winston Reid released
One of my favourite players over the last 10 years and an excellent defender at his peak. I remember being well pleased when he signed a new deal as we all thought he’d be leaving on a free. The injuries weren’t his fault and neither was the money he was being paid while injured. That’s just football sometimes.

I’ll never forget the feeling when he scored the winning header in the last game at Upton Park. He deserves to have that legacy.

Re: Winston Reid released
Who would have thought he would have turned into the defender he did after his debut against Aston Villa? Albeit he was played out of position from memory.

Class defender and like others have said scored some monumental goals for us over the years.

He gave Upton Park the send off it deserved so couldn't care less how much he has been earning since that injury.

Good luck Winston, you will be fondly remembered and was a great servant for the club.

There is a bit of sorrow about what might have been but he was great for us until the numerous injuries.

As others have said that goal will never be forgotten.
What a way to cap a fantastic season.

Reid was a good defender. Shame about the injuries. Wish him the very best.

very solid professional, I wish him well in whatever he does next

Re: Winston Reid released
He was a good combative defender, always fully committed. His only weakness was his passing. He rarely seemed comfortable on the ball and whenever he tried to play it down the line, he would usually slice it out. That’s what stopped him being a great player.

However, I will always consider him a West Ham legend, partly for that millwall goal, but mostly for THAT goal. As far as I’m concerned, that alone writes his name in the stars.

All the very best for the future, Winston, son.

Solid player for us who had some good seasons with us and turned out to be a very good signing.

Re: Winston Reid released
I suspect we paid a substantial portion of the remaining contract as a lump sum so he could fuck off from the training ground. At least we save a bit of cash in HR.

Iron Duke 10:30 Tue Sep 21
Re: Winston Reid released
I think he had two years left. We probably paid him half.

It’s a shame about the last 4 years. Typical West Ham luck.

Thanks for the memories, Winston.

Re: Winston Reid released
I don't think he waived his contract. Says they came to an agreement.

It was a long contract but no one would complain if we offered Rice the same. He was highly thought of at the time. The injury is one of those things.

Wish him all the best. Some very fond memories of him.

Think he was one of Allardyce’s biggest successes while here. He turned Reid into a really good centre back. Was brilliant first few seasons when we came up.

Re: Winston Reid released
I can't see why anyone would or could slag him off. Was a massive part of us returning to the premier league after his first full season with us. Was brilliant for us. Shame it ended the way it did.

Good luck Winston ⚒️
